Spice Vending Machine developed at MIT for the 2.009 design class

2.009 Dash Spice Vending Machine

Dash Spice Vending Machiene

The Project

In the senior mechanical engineering class 2.009, students at MIT’s Product Engineering Processes developed a Dash spice vending machine. From concept to beta prototype, the machine was created in three months and features:

  • A touchscreen interface
  • 18 spice selection
  • Custom blends and recipe suggestions
  • accurate dispensing of the spices

Students and Mentor in Lab at MIT for 2.009 Product Design and Processes

My role

By participating in lab meetings and working with them in the machine shop, I supported the students learning the design process from an idea to the realization of the invention.  I have been an industry mentor to the class for several years and I encourage them to devise extraordinary products under tight deadlines.
